Trimming HEDGES On This Scenic Countryside Property
The homeowner was desperate to get their hedges trimmed and neatened up. Light Trimming of the new growth on the front hedges and then tackling the backyard hedges, which in areas needed some hard pruning to try and fill in some gaps from where a section of hedge was removed. Using a single sided hedge trimmer and a battery hedge trimmer for this work. We also get the lawn mower and string trimmer out and mow the lawns, to tidy everything up. This home is situated on a hillside and has some amazing views of the landscape.

We SAVED A Declining OLD HEDGE, Satisfying Hedge Trimming
Просмотров 28 тыс.14 дней назад
This really old evergreen box honeysuckle formal hedge has been through a couple of major hedge renovations in the last few years, to try and revitalise it, after it was starting to struggle. We trimmed the sides off to start with, then last year we gave the top a hedge reduction, because of dieback and poor growth. Now back to it this year and its doing amazing, its almost fully recovered, it ...

What a RESULT, This Lonicera Nitida evergreen hedge was on the brink of giving up, so we gave it a hard hedge reduction last year, and now we are back to it properly a year later and it is doing really well, Its got lots of new growth on it which is a great sign. We get this hedge squared and neatened up. We are not doing any hard pruning on this hedge this year, so there are still a few bits t...

BIG CONIFER HEDGE Gets A Cut Back
Просмотров 530 тыс.Месяц назад
Hedge trimming a large Leylandii hedge. As usual with this one, we are cutting back a lot of the growth to stop the hedge creeping out and getting too wide. We used a Stihl hedge trimmer and a Makita hedge trimmer for this job on this front yard hedge. 🔔 Subscribe to keep up to date when my new videos are released. www.youtube.com/@RJLgardens?sub_confirmation=1

Spring LAWN CARE, Scarifying / Dethatching
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.2 месяца назад
We are back on this lawn, where we firstly scalped and cut the grass really short. Now we are scarifying it to reduced thatch levels and thin out the sward. We do a couple of passes with the scarifier and then a final mow with the lawn mower to pick up any debris left and to give it a final scalp. Lastly we apply some treatments to control moss and help the lawn along. Scalping this lawn: ▶ ruc...
Destroying LAWNS In Spring, BUT WHY? IT WAS SO GREEN
Просмотров 14 тыс.3 месяца назад
Sometimes you just have to reset and scalp your lawn. We do this when the grass is actively growing. If your lawn is more yellow coloured than green, this is possibly worth doing (talking cool season turf). Every yard will be different and require slightly varying procedures depending on grass species and soil conditions. 🔔Subscribe to keep up to date when new videos are released. www.youtube.c...
NEW Lawn Mower Blades, Talking Sharpness & Balancing
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.3 месяца назад
So you have bought a new blade for your lawn mower, it should be good enough to put straight on and get grass cutting right? Most of us want nice looking lawns with healthy green grass, to get that we start with the blades. I go over a couple of simple steps to do before using new blades which will hopefully eliminate any issues that may arise from poor quality blades. Every blade and manufactu...

Cutting Back an Overgrown Elder HEDGE To Get More PRIVACY
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.4 месяца назад
Pruning a row of Sambucus / elder / elderberry shrubs so they form a nice thick green hedgerow. This is a slightly different approach to the normal large shrub or tree type prune. Our aim is to get thick dense growth in the correct area and at the right height for use as a privacy screen. So we have to train and reduce the hedge plants to achieve this. We used a selection of pruning shears / lo...

How To PROPERLY Sharpen LAWN MOWER BLADES
Hi. beautifully done job. Can you tell me what kind of scissors you use, along with the plastic you have on the scissors to collect the cut twigs please? well done! 👍
step one buy a $2500 trimmer
Yo dude...is that a bang on 25mm? My Mak is measuring 24. I just tried an ebay especial. Utter shite. Just spinning like a lying politician. Rubbish for any sort of work, gone in the bin. The Makita stock grip is huge with a pointless stiffy on it too. That weapon there looks lower profile as did the ebay junk!
Normally I drop pull mine. Only time I need to start like this is if it isn’t playing ball and need some throttle to help. Have a tip on the HCR185 and the 3810 has the scoop but the 3810 is usually pretty good
Don't tell me this thing is permanently lubed and you can't lubricate it?
The fence is beautiful and so is the house. You are doing something to beautify the view.
Finer flapdiscs produce a smoother edge. A smoother edge will last a lot longer.
You get to work at a lot of STUNNING gardens! That says a lot about the caliber of your work. You are skilled and trusted, indeed. You aren't afraid of hats work and huge jobs. Really enjoying your channel. Kudos from the PNW. 💛🖤💛 Stacy M
That's a huge ass hedge! Lucky duck. Got their rider & cart to help with clean up! You are a surgeon at this. Seriously great work. Blessings from Washington State. 💛🖤💛 Stacy M
Muito satisfatório! 😍
Thanks so much for showing which told were on tap for the day! Gotta have the right tool for the job. 😉 You certainly are the Hedge Whisperer! I've subscribed. Really enjoy your videos. Relaxing and informative. Blessings from the Great Pacific Northwest, Lakewood, Washington. 💛🖤💛 Stacy M
He could be a black mans barber
That's a truly scenic view! Wonderful job on helping with making the site scenic itself.
This is super satisfying. Especially as its a really dense hedge it looks immaculate. Another job well done
Sieht echt Schei… aus.👎
Super OF Tajikistan klass
No idea what that means 😅
Nice work how do you find the makita battery life
No wonder people are proud of being English. It is truly a beautiful country.
Not all of it is. Trust me 😂
@@danieltaylor1038 - Yes, I suppose that’s true of every country. Sadly.
Are there shire or county regulations that require this type of upkeep, or is it purely owner esthetic preference? From watching Clarkson’s Farm, I know that there are minute rules and regulations for a LOT of things in the UK.
I don’t know for sure, but I think this guy has done this a couple times before. 😉👏👏👏
whoa! disengage the battery BEFORE STICKING YOUR FINGERS INTO THE BLADES!!! and then why not mention what you are using on your grinder; not telepathic and so assuming a flap wheel but what grit?
Relax officer, no fingers were harmed in the making of this video 😂. The grit will vary depending on what your blades need, anywhere from 60-120
weell done how long did it take you
Around 5hrs i think, that was with the big bottom bit of grass as well 👍
it must have been tiresome how much did they pay you
What a fantastic finish and what a view
Thanks, yes its a great spot, albeit hilly 😅
its neat
👌
Love that hedge trimmer! Is it heavy? This may be an odd question, but what brand of work pants do you use?. They are perfect for yard work! Awesome video!!! What a beautiful spot to work at for the day. You are a true Hedge Whisperer! Blessings from Washington State 💛🖤💛 Stacy M
Thanks Stacy, Yes lovely place to work, i just wish it wasnt so slopey 😅 These trimmers are nice and light and minimal noise, which is great. These are just a cheap pair of work trousers, not sure on make. i have loads of diff brands i use. All the best 😊
Amazing!
cheers 👌
What the brand and the model of those trimmers?
makita duh754
Impressive as always
Thank you, Cheers 👍
Are these your go tools now do use for everything surprised you haven’t got the battery makita strimmer must say they do a really good job 👍
Yeh pretty much for all the light trimming jobs, did look at the makita strimmer but heard battery life was poor? Which one have you got? I do want a battery strimmer though. 👍
@@RJLgardens 36v but way too heavy
Tidy work mate. I do miss my single sided short arm. Whats the makita like rob? is the battery life good? and whats it like in general? Hope your well mate
Thanks bud. I really like it mate, dont think ive used my hs86 since i bought it. Battery is good, couple hrs maybe, its so lightweight and quick, you fly through the hedges. 👍
@@RJLgardens after I messaged you, I brought one! 😂🤣 literally got home today, and it there. I’m gonna take of that silly leg protector, and put it to work. I saw enough on 2 of your videos to make the decision
I immediately knew this was some British dude. Y'all obsessed with hedges 😂 much love from across the pond
We do seem to have alot more hedges then you guys, I guess we arent people persons and want to block all the neighbours out 😂. cheers 👌
top job as per 👍 all the years I've been in the game & i didn't think of mulching the cuttings until i watched LHL 😮
Cheers pal, yeh its a great way to reduce the waste away, where possible. Good old Lee, he loves it 😅. I only did that little section at the end, as could get away with it there. 👍
shouldn't be doing the hedges in nesting season, you can hear the distress and alarm calls of the disturbed pairs in the video.
If there are birds nesting then they will be deep in the hedge, any birds will go straight back to sitting/feeding once the cutting is done. If he was drastically reducing the height or width or removing the hedge then it would be different.
Bills don't care about mad birds.
Another point is the bird alarm calls could be completely unrelated, a magpie or sparrow hawk flying over or a cat passing through the garden could just as likely set them off. I had a blackbird making alarm calls this evening whilst I was hoeing my vegetable beds, no idea what set it off but it was the farr end of my garden, so it was not due to my activity.
@bytespc Firstly there were NO nesting birds in the hedges i trimmed. The bird making noise was across the road in the neighbours hedge somewhere, you can see me looking over in that direction. I respect wildlife and don't disturb active nests during nesting season. Checks are always made prior to any work commencing. Unfortunately i don't have the luxury of waiting till September for every single hedge i cut. They wouldn't be formal hedges if that was the case.
@@paulf2529 Spot on mate, these light trims are generally fine, we still have to do checks prior to work though 👍
Nice
Cheers 👍
Rob, you've really got an "eye," my friend. I doubt I could get something looking that level, plumb and straight without running some string lines to help. LOL Another outstanding job, as well as an educational, entertaning and relaxing video. I suppose, at my age, it's just relaxing watching a master craftsman at work.
Many thanks, these hedges were all kinds of wonky, not sure i would call them straight 😅
@@RJLgardens 🤣 Well, I was referencing more than just this one video.🤣
What model hedge trimmers are you using, mainly the set without the articulating head. I have those, but I've never seen the others here in the states.
Makita duh754 single sider, its great. Dont see many of you guys running those type of trimmers. 👍
That’s pretty good. I’d have to run a string line
Thanks, too much faff setting all that up 😅
I love doing this kind of pruning its the easiest.just trimming off the new growth with a brick wall behind it.
this work is beautiful look at the gardens
👌👍
Amazing skill. Well done.
Cheers 👍
I get quite a bit of movement from the neck where the 4 black screws are and don’t always click into position keeps on going past it but really like it
Make sure nothing has come loose 👍
Has anyone been able to buy these Leyland cypress in toronto area?
Looks like a satisfying job.
Certainly was 👌
Different strokes for different folks. You did a good job trimming. However, I liked it better before it was trimmed. It now looks like a green cement wall.
5 minutes of waffle, I expect this from American versions
All relevant waffle though 😅. Im only a small youtuber, cut me some slack.
Sides are cut wrong .
Oh no, really? how should i do it? 🙄
What do you do with the laurel trimmings?
Had an area to dump them, which is always a bonus.
So this is where the algorithm has brought me. And I watched it 😂
Nice one, thanks 😅
what type of hedge is that?
